8. What would you suggest to a student who was hurt?

A student of mine had a herniated disk, so twists were not advised, so twists were not an option for him so I suggested alternate poses. I wanted him to feel at ease in session, even if he couldn’t execute some of the positions. 

When he came to class, I emphasized core strength movements so that everybody could engage. I also reassured him of his abilities so that he wouldn’t become disheartened. I make an effort to be inclusive and present my pupils with a variety of possibilities.

9. What are some of the difficulties you’ve faced as a yoga instructor?

I partnered with a yoga instructor who was constantly subcontracting her classes. It was aggravating since everyone was impacted, including the students. I spoke with her about how I thought about it, as well as how the learners were sad because they didn’t get to retain the same instructor every week.

18. How do you make sure your students are safe?

As a teacher, I help students learn to listen to their bodies by allowing them to pay attention to what feels pleasant or unpleasant so that they have a better understanding of what to do during those moments. To assist my students advance into poses that are suitable for their bodies, I also spend a lot of time teaching good spine positions.
