Skype Interview Tips

Tips for Skype Interview:

1. Skype application:

Firstly, make sure that you have downloaded and installed the ‘Skype’ application/Software on your device. Of course, you may not be using Skype frequently. That’s the reason many people just try to join the link via browser.

Let me warn you before you enter Skype there are many log-in processes you have to go through, creating I.D to make a self profile. Hence to avoid delay and commotion install and set your application before your interview.

2. Set your surrounding proper

You are in an interview, yes it’s on an online mode so it’s your surroundings that will be seen. You have to keep your camera open so with you, your background will also be visible.

Hence, pick a sophisticated background and also clear your desk, remove all fancy decoratives, showpieces, and everything else that can draw attention away from you.

3. Professional attire

Our attire or dressing isn’t just to cover our body it speaks about us. Though you will be at our house or your place, your dressing is something which will still matter. Giving an interview by being from home is fine but giving the Interview by being in torso and pajamas isn’t.

Wear professional attire from head to toe. Look how your attire reflects on camera. Cleanse yourself, be tidy and get ready to face the camera.

4. Focus on the camera and not anywhere else

Remember, it’s a webcam that will connect you and your interviewer. So look at the camera not anywhere else neither on screen nor yourself. Usually, people look at their window on a screen that doesn’t make eye contact with their interviewer. So focus on the camera!

5. Clear other tabs and silence other devices

Desktop and smartphone both are eligible for attending online interviews through Skype. A desktop or a laptop is more preferable but whatever it might be or you got, just make sure to close all the other applications or software running in the background. As it may put more pressure on the device and may also result in the hang of the device or slowing the process of application or software.

Another important thing you must keep in mind is to keep all the other devices silent or out of the room as it can create a mess and disturb you and also can divert the interviewer’s mind.

6. Keep a notepad and a pen

This may sound silly or a common-sense point but it’s very basic and also a mostly forgotten or ignored thing among most of us. While having an interview it’s a good idea to take notes of points, questions, or insights your interviewers ask and you feel it is crucial or unheard before, so you can be prepared for them and also add them into feedback form or mail and use those points for follow up as well.

Also noting your points express that you are organized, intelligent and you think forward.

7. Keep important papers and certificates ready

As we all are aware that the résumé / c.v is the most prioritized thing for an interview. It is the essential and first thing to keep with yourself and near you. A business card is also a small but great thing to keep ready with you but here we are on a digital platform where you can keep your e-business card which you can mail to your interviewers.

Make sure you keep your valuable certificates and accomplishment sheets beside you. Having a PDF form of your certificates and all paper works is well and good.

8. Practice makes a man perfect

It may seem very easy to be at home in your comfort zone and answer the questions but it’s a myth. Face to face to interviews and facing cameras are very different, before you face the camera practice it with mock sessions.

You can also ask your friend to host a mock interview session so you practice with him. Remember the more you practice, the more confident you will be.
